Products, orders, customers, campaigns. Your to-do list is already full. Finding an afternoon to write store policies rarely feels like the best use of it.
Shopify’s update, announced on 8 October 2026, takes some of that repetitive work off your plate: you can automate return and refund, contact information, terms of service, shipping and legal notice policies. The generated content adapts to relevant store settings and Shopify’s recommendations.
Why it matters
The useful part goes beyond saving a few paragraphs of typing. When your business changes, outdated pages can create confusion for customers. Keeping policies connected to your settings reduces one more task on the list, especially when preparing a store launch or entering a new market.
Our view: automation is most valuable when it frees you to make decisions, rather than repeatedly document them.
How to get started
Open Settings → Policies in your Shopify admin, choose a supported policy and enable Use automated policy. Review the generated content, then save. Repeat for each policy you want to automate.
Already have custom wording or translations? Keep a copy first: activating automation replaces existing content.
A useful shortcut, with a final review
Check that the result matches how your business actually works. Automation saves drafting time; it does not guarantee legal compliance, which remains your responsibility.
At Deved, we see this as a practical step towards a lighter store setup: less repetitive admin, more attention for the shopping experience.
